We did this. We turned the world against us. There’s no one left to protect us now.

Eric & Nora | Looking For You Again

theloupgaroux:

The tag is so filled with hate, ugh. I don’t think people are even putting thought into why they are spewing bile at her character. They are simply reacting. When the reality of this situation is that Nora is his daughter. She loved him. He committed suicide and completely went back on the values he taught her, that he lived by. She was saying “fuck Godric” as in “fuck the sick Godric that died” NOT her creator. NOT the man she loved. NOT the vampire he was. It’s like if you had a mentally ill family member commit suicide. Would you not be bitter, hurt, angry, upset at the sickness? Hate what they become, what drove them to put out their own light? I would. When someone you love becomes someone else… it’s like you want to disown who they ended up as, and cherish who they truly were before. Even if you wouldn’t, her actions are completely understandable. Nora has embraced her faith after this trauma, as Godric embraced the idea of God in his final moments. Like maker, like progeny.

A grieving daughter, who is in a very, very precarious position of power would be understandably rocked by all of these events. She’s lost her maker, not just to the true death but to the sickness and blasphemy that he turned into. She was faced with the possible death of her brother. She was tortured, over and over and over. Tortured not just by her peers, but by her mentor. Someone she cared greatly for, not for a few years but for centuries.

So yeah, fuck Godric. She loved him. The way she spoke of who he was, she obviously respected and loved him. If anyone gets to be hurt and upset and confused by his suicide, it is his own daughter.

As for those calling her “crazy”, why? She is extremely devout, yes. But she has beliefs, and she operates accordingly. She sees humans, her food source for the entirety of her existence save the last decade tops, as cattle. As we view our food source, beef etc, as cattle. Why shouldn’t she? They aren’t the same species. Eric had no great love for humans s1, and he lived amongst them. Nora has been shut away in the authority for hundreds of years. Mentored by someone who has fanned the flames Godric created.

Or have people forgotten about that? How Godric embraced God, or attempted to, at the last. Or how he spoke of the sacred blood? Already, in the few scenes we have of him, he has taught his children to dominate human emotion, to survive, and to cherish certain things. Is Nora not doing what she was taught?? Dominating her pain. Surviving past the humans. Cherishing Lilith and her faith. Cherishing Eric, and the memory of the true Godric.

Nora does not know, really know, that Godric would not approve of her actions. Remember when Eric went against Godric by entombing Russell in concrete?? He sees the visions of their maker. He was with him before he died. Nora doesn’t have these advantages. She is just struggling, against all odds, to hold firm to her belief system and protect those she loves. Which includes the memory of her maker, although that differs from the Godric we were introduced to in the second season.

So yeah, Nora says “fuck Godric” and you should try to empathise with the daughter who has had her entire world shaken and crumble around her, and had her own father commit suicide. Leaving her alone to battle against the Authority factions, and try to keep herself and her brother alive.

DON’T SAY 600 YEARS THAT PUTS IT IN MY ERA AND NOW I MUST KNOW!!
